Air Force Awards Knowledge Management Contract

Here's the good news: holiday parties will soon start cropping up left and right. The bad: so will boorish guests. So the next time someone gives you a look (or a few words) implying that knowledge management is dull, consider using a conversational trump card and calling it "patriotic." The U.S. Air Force has, you see, just awarded a knowledge management contract to Logistics Systems Incorporated.

LSI will now get to "provide information technology (IT) services to the Headquarters Air Force (HAF) Studies & Analyses, Assessments and Lessons Learned Division (AF/A9)," according to a press release. And referenced with the proper tone of voice, that entity can be made to sound more interesting than Skunk Works.

Also, "LSI IT professionals will perform an initial analysis of the Air Force's requirements and existent IT resources, and then develop a baseline knowledge management system using Microsoft Office SharePoint (MOSS)." You can even draw a major household name into the conversation, then.

Finally, if the economy's getting you down, think about looking at this development as an inspirational account. Since LSI was founded in 2002, it's not drawing on umpteen years of support from shady corporate ties and deep-pocketed investors. LSI is a "Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business," so it may have had an easier-than-average time dealing with the Air Force, but that status is really only all the more reason to wish it good luck.

Good luck to you, too, when it comes to dealing with parents-in-law and other annoying partygoers.
